Authors : Abrar Hussain, Kalaivani Chellappan and Siti Zamratol Mai-Sarah Mukari

Abstract: Auditory training software operating with embedded technology of virtual auditory space is a new concept in Malay language application. This concept stems from the necessity of maintaining cultural appropriateness. Virtual auditory space is created by employing spatial audio simulator. This simulator can convey sound to the listeners through headphone and loudspeaker from distinct directions, so that, listeners can perceive the sounds coming from various spatial positions in space by using their spatial hearing mechanism. In this study, three dimensional virtual auditory space is created by pre-synthesizing Malay speech with time-domain Head-Related Impulse-Response (HRIR) data that acquired from KEMAR database. For this study, simulations are done under the platform of Intel® Core i5-2450M [email protected] GHz. Moreover, IDT high definition audio codec is used as a built-in sound controller. The current study uses MATLAB tool for the simulation of virtual auditory space. Results of spatialization are analyzed through the spectrogram analysis of the spatialized signals and show that spatial rendering of speech sound is possible.
