Public Acceptance of Rukun Tetangga Activities by Races

Abstract: Neighbourhood watch (RT) was introduced in 1975. The objectives is generally to assess the level of public acceptance of neighbourhood watch. This study is to identify whether the neighbourhood can be acceptance by the community, especially, through the acceptance of various races and also understanding of the population of RT activity beyond their involvement in it. For the research, 500 questionnaires will be distributed to be answered by the community’s neighbourhoods. The respondents that the research is going for based on the list of registered neighbourhood obtained from Department of National Unity. The research area will include the state of Kedah in North Malaysia. Respondents had to respond to the questionnaire given to them by mail or by the online questionnaires. From numerous elements in the questionnaires, this study will have covered two chosen elements from the research questionnaire which are the acceptance of Rukun Tetangga activities and their participation in Rukun Tetangga in their place. The researcher used IBM SPSS 20.0 to analyze these research findings. Therefore, this research shows that public acceptance of neighbourhood activities by races are one of the factors that influence the participation of communities in Rukun Tetangga activities. In order to ensure the continuous of participation in RT activities they should always have good time management and mingling together although in various races stay together to do the activities.
