Abstract: This study was designed to investigate the utilization of institutional credit among small scale farmers in Imo state. A sample of 40 livestock farmers and 50 food crop farmers were selected by multistage random sampling technique. Data were collected through a well structured questionnaire administered to a total of 90 randomly selected farmers. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and ordinary least square multiple regression technique. Results showed that farm income, household size, farming experience, expenditure on labour and level of education are important factors that determine the utilization of institutional credit by farmers while interest rate is not a determinant. This study recommends that credit obtained must be utilized on production activities rather than consumption inorder for the loan obtained to be repaid and on time too.
