The Perception and Strategies of Progressive Farmers on Improved Irrigation Methods

Abstract: The specific objectives of the research were: The perceptions and strategies of progressive farmers on furrow irrigation method. How the farmers met with the furrow irrigation method. Why did the farmer`s shift from basin irrigation to furrow irrigation method. What are the pro`s and con`s of furrow irrigation method. What were the problems witty shifting? What are the constraints and problems they are facing? The study concluded that the potential is there to have bed-and –furrow irrigation method more widespread; however, the farming systems have to be considered in a broader context and the constraints have to be addressed. Contributions should also come from other parties, which are involved in agriculture in order to make innovations sustainable, such as: (I) providing extension and knowledge to the farmers; (ii) demonstrating to the farmers the impact of bed-and-furrow irrigation; and (iii) strengthening. The concept of having common arrangements for using equipment and supplying inputs among farmers.
