A Connectivity Decision Support System (Cdss) for Wireless Networks

Abstract: Recent advances in cellular and wireless networking technologies have given rise to a host of location-based services for wireless users. Unfortunately, the benefits of wireless connectivity are limited by the range of wireless transmitters that vary by network type and application. A Connectivity Decision Support System (CDSS) framework is proposed for wireless networks that would provide location-based information to users. Unlike most of the proposed services that are becoming available to cellular phone users, such as location tracking of a user, the goal of the proposed CDSS framework is to increase the "connectivity" or connectedness of users. This notion of increased "connectivity" would thus result in a decreased number of dropped or poor quality calls. The CDSS framework is proposed for a spectrum of wireless network types including cellular networks, ad hoc networks, and wireless IEEE 802.11-based networks. A model of a cellular network CDSS is developed and proof of concept simulations are successfully outlined.
