NigeriaοΏ½s Foreign Policy and Image Crisis
Kunle Ajayi

Abstract: A nationοΏ½s ability to interact with other nations is a reflection of its acceptance internationally and evaluation of its level of civility in terms of behavioral conformity with international legal principles. President Olusegun Obasanjo, has since the inauguration of his administration in May, 1999 been trying hard to resuscitate the nationοΏ½s battered image abroad. The presidentοΏ½s shuttle diplomacy across the globe is yet to achieve a convincing impact on the civilized international community in terms of image-building and respect for the nation and Nigerians abroad. Nigerians are treated with indignity, contempt, impunity and suspect beyond the nationοΏ½s shores. The problematic challenge of the nationοΏ½s foreign policy is how to overcome its image crisis and deficiency in integrity and discipline and thereby securing the desired respect for its citizens internationally.
